Cancer Prostate

Cancer is a high deadly disease if it is not detected in its early stages and each type of cancer is unique because its progression is different meaning that in different patients the cancer will develop in different stages, in different periods of time, with different effects of the general health of the person diagnosed with it.
The cancer appears because of certain factors, rather normal, such as the living environment, the excessive smoking and alcohol drinking, the alimentation poor in nutritional and natural food products, the inherited genes from a member of the family already diagnosed with a certain type of cancer, the age and even race. There hormonal problems can directly affect the prostate causing the apparition of diseases such as cancer, prostatitis or the benign prostatic hyperplasia.
All over the world in every year a man in six will get to be diagnosed with a prostate cancer and in America only the lung cancer, closely followed by the skin cancer, causes more deaths than the prostate one.

The prostate cancer is a type of cancer whose main causes are some of the factors already mentioned before and the spreading of the malignant tumor is done at a slow pace, sometimes taking even four years to double its size; sometimes the spreading process is do fast and complex that when the cancer is detected in the body the medical specialist can tell where is the primary location of it so they have to refer to this type of cancer as cancer of unknown primary.
The cancer cells are in the first stage located in the infected organ but without any treatment to stop them from multiplying, they will start their travel to far near areas of the prostate gland such as the bladder, the urethra, the liver, etc. and infect them also so the cancer becomes locally advanced. The cancer in the final stage is known as metastatic and that occurs when from the original primary tumor other small secondary tumors had developed in far regions of the body such as the lungs, the bone system including the ribs and even the brain.
Even with the treatment options available, such as the prostatectomy or prostate surgery if the cancer is organ confined or the androgen deprivation therapy or hormone therapy, the radiotherapy with the external proton beam radiation and brachytherapy and chemotherapy, complemented with the use of strong drugs, the prostate cancer can always recur sometimes in more aggressive forms such as the metastases. Usually, a period of fifteen years after the initial treatment is required for the survival rates to stabilize and there is a ninety eight percent chance of surviving for at least five years if the cancer is detected in its early stages.
The cancer of prostate can be diagnosed only with the help of the screening tests, even if the results have to be interpreted by the medical specialists, and the prostate biopsy, methods complemented by new ones such as the prostate mapping, the coaxial tomography or CAT scans, the nomogram, the magnetic resonance imaging or MRI and the radionuclide bone scans.
The screening tests include two examination procedures involving a physical check done by a physician that, with a gloved finger inserted into the rectum, will palpate the prostate gland to spot any lumps or a hardness that may indicate the presence of a malignant tumor; the second exam is taking a blood sample for the prostate specific antigen blood test that may indicate the levels of the PSA in the body, which in normal circumstances should be very low.

If the screening result shows something abnormal the examination will continue with a prostate biopsy, a method of detection done by extracting prostate tissues samples with the guidance of the ultrasound images.
If cancer prostate is diagnosed with the Whitmore-Jewett or the TNM (tumor, nodes and metastatic) staging system and the Gleason scale the doctors will determine the stage of that identified cancer and its grade; these procedures are very important for prescribing the right type of treatment.
The cancer of the prostate can even be cured if its is detected early but according to the prognosis for its outcome there are basically two different results: the prescribed treatment will prove ineffective, not stopping, not even delaying the spreading process or the treatment will prove efficient in the fight against this disease so the patient can even be treated.
