Looking back we can say that the earliest attempts at treatment in prostate cancer were mostly based on the idea of removing the urinary obstruction with the help of surgery. It was in the years of 1890 when they tried to remove it, however as it was in many cases their attempts met with little success. A more successful treatment was that of the one that supposed the removal of the prostate gland, known today as "radical perineal prostatectomy".It was first developed in 1904. Never the less this could lead to problems in penile function, and this is way the search for other treatments continued, medics have observed.

As the time passed and the turn of the twenties arrived one of the treatments developed not only for prostate cancer but cancer in general was that of radiation therapy, as studies have shown us. Such ideas of using radiation to treat cancers slowly began to develop with the discovery of x-rays in the year 1895 by Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen. Rontgen realized from the very beginning, the potential in using these x-rays as a powerful tool in the treatment of cancer.
Thus throughout the years radiation treatment continued to develop thanks to the work of scientists such as Marie Curie, with her discovery of the radioactive elements of polonium and radium. These "radium implants" were used in the also in the early 20th century to treat prostate cancer, and this is the first form of radiation treatment used in prostate cancer.
As time passed by other important developments occurred. Such development is very important in the world of prostate cancer arrived from Canada . The scientist Charles B. Huggins discovered in 1941 that the estrogen, the hormone could be used to control the testosterone naturally present in men and moreover control the growth of the prostate cancer, as documents have pointed out. This was the first time that it was realized that hormones could be used to control the development of some cancers. with this discovery Huggins won the Nobel Prize in 1966.

In the passing of years, throughout prostate cancer history many methods of treatment have been developed and tried. As a conclusion if you suspect you have or have prostate cancer go to the doctor's and find out the severity of your type of cancer and the stage you are currently in so to know what treatment to use You most always keep in mind that one of the keys in treating prostate cancer or any cancer is early acknowledging of its existence. Health is the most important thing a person can protect and improve sometimes so take care of it.
